Now it may not sound like much, but it’s been a bucket list item of mine for some time, but it’s one that keeps me gripped by fear every time I think of entering.
Why? Because every time I consider entering I feel ‘I’m not ready‘.
So it was awesome to see within minutes of that email going out I had a flood of encouraging responses and a beautiful story that I want to share with you.
My friend and colleague Susanna Morely, Principle Consultant and Founder of Grow Consultancy, was at the awards dinner last year. As you can imagine, there was all the glitz and glamour you’d expect from a Gala Dinner.
As the 12 finalists gathered over drinks they were each invited to share their story. One by one they revealed their doubts, challenges and accomplishments that had led them to this moment. And you know what Susanna said was the overarching theme for every single one of those finalists?
They had been afraid or discouraged to use their own voice.
Imagine if they’d never found their voice, never put pen to paper on that award submission and never inspired other women to do the same.
When I told Susanna that I didn’t feel ready you know what she said?
“Well if you’re not ready now you never will be. It’s not like you will get a certificate of readiness through the post when you’re grown up enough. You have to go for it.”
And she’s spot on.
I have a voice, a message and a story. In applying for this award (even in the face of huge self-doubt) I hope to inspire others to do the same.
